It’s the night before her asylum interview in Vienna, and Aysha is practicing late at night in the bathroom of the fluchtlinglager until she notices a familiar face behind her mirror. Aysha’s mother and the rest of her dead family are there to haunt her, and are demanding to know, what did she do to Kareem?

Exile’s Mirror is a murder-mystery opera about Aysha Halabi, an 18-year-old refugee who arrived in Vienna, Austria alone at the start of the Syrian Civil War. She’s the last survivor of her family, and she’s haunted by unfulfilled wishes her ancestors had for her, and the split she caused with Kareem. Meet Aysha, her mother, father, grandfather, and aunt as the family tells a multi-generational story about love, resilience, adversity, politics, and faith.
