When the Moon sings, I drink…

Composed for the Fresh Inc Festival, and funded by the Stephen R. Gerber trust, When the Moon sings, I drink… is a work that has gone through several iterations. The original work is for English Horn, Double Bass, Piano, and Electronics. However, versions such as solo electronics, string orchestra, full orchestra, EH, DB, piano, and vibraphone are also available. If you would like this piece arranged for your ensemble, contact me.

The work ponders the imagery of wine in Sufi poetry, which represents something akin to an intoxication of the soul. In such poetry, the Moon is typically a mirror of the soul and a portal between the material and the divine.

The recording attached is for electronics alone, click here for the version with English Horn, Double Bass, and Piano. Also watch the YouTube video below to see this work Choreographed by Nadia Khayrallah and Whitney Janis for their show Retrospectral performed in New York City, 2023.
